Dawnwalker All Endings: 8 Routes, Postgame & Save Plan
All eight Dawnwalker ending routes, why some guides count seven, the prologue Brencis secret, postgame rules and the manual saves that protect every branch.
This page synthesizes the attributed sources below. It does not present another outlet's test as our own; unresolved player reports stay provisional.
There are eight distinct ending or failure states when the two-stage Brencis victory in the prologue is counted separately: four main finales, two other secret endings, the prologue victory and Time Runs Out. Some trophy guides say seven because they omit or fold the prologue win into another route. A finished ending does not open normal free roam; reload a manual save before the commitment. Time Runs Out is different: the family-rescue outcome is lost, but the world remains playable.

Major spoiler warning
This page names every ending, the allies who unlock final routes and the choices that decide Coen's outcome. Stop here if you only wanted the ending count.
The count needs one qualification. PowerPyx documents seven trophy-route outcomes, including Time Runs Out. PC Gamer documents eight possible endings by also counting the exceptionally difficult two-stage Brencis victory during the prologue. This page shows both conventions instead of hiding the disagreement.
Why guides say seven or eight endings
The difference is classification, not a missing ordinary finale. Four routes resolve the late Brencis conflict, A Hero They Deserve and Together Forever end the campaign early, and Time Runs Out records the failed family deadline. Defeating Brencis during the prologue creates another credits-and-epilogue state, but some trophy-focused lists do not count it separately.
For a completion plan, treat the prologue fight as its own branch. It cannot be recovered from a late-game save.
| Count | Included states | Practical meaning |
|---|---|---|
| 7 | Four main finales + two early endings + Time Runs Out | The common trophy-guide convention |
| 8 | Those seven + defeating Brencis during the prologue | The complete distinct-route convention used here |
All eight ending states at a glance
Four outcomes resolve the late confrontation with Brencis, two end the campaign early, one rewards defeating Brencis before the open world, and one records the cost of missing the family deadline.
| Ending or state | Route trigger | Preparation or warning |
|---|---|---|
| The Turncoat | Accept Brencis's bargain and betray your allies | Reach the final route before day 30 |
| The Folk Hero | Reject the bargain and fight without Lacra or Crake | Choose the direct solo confrontation |
| The Patricide | Begin the final route with Lacra | Complete Lacra's alliance questline |
| The Knyazmaker | Begin the final route with Crake and the Manumit | Complete Crake's alliance questline |
| A Hero They Deserve | Leave Vale Sangora through the western route | Keep a post-prologue backup save |
| Together Forever | Remain in the Home Sweet Home dream loop | Do not use the well escape during the fourth cycle |
| Prologue Brencis victory | Defeat both Brencis encounters at the end of the prologue | Extremely difficult; save before the first fight |
| Time Runs Out | Exceed 30 in-game days before rescuing the family | No ending trophy; preserve a pre-deadline save |
One-playthrough save plan
Keep a manual save before the prologue Brencis fight, then continue the campaign if you do not win that branch. Keep Esme alive, defeat Ambrus, Bakir and Xanthe through their Court routes, and complete both Lacra and Crake's alliance questlines before entering the final sequence.
Do not build the plan around one autosave. Use separate manual slots so the prologue secret, early endings, missed deadline or final dialogue cannot overwrite the branch you need.
| Save | When to make it | What it protects |
|---|---|---|
| 0 · Prologue boss | Before the first Brencis fight | The separate two-stage prologue victory |
| A · Prologue exit | Before leaving the opening region | A Hero They Deserve and early relationship recovery |
| B · Rolling campaign | Start of every in-game day | Time-sensitive quests and the 30-day rescue |
| C · Ally-ready | After Lacra and Crake preparations | Patricide and Knyazmaker access |
| D · Final branch | Before A Deal with the Devil | Turncoat and Folk Hero choices |
| E · Home Sweet Home | Before the fourth dream cycle | Together Forever and the escape route |
Four Brencis routes and exact commitment points
After the three vassals are defeated and Infamy reaches its final state, advance to the next day for Brencis's message and A Deal with the Devil. Make Save D before entering the parley.
Earlier role-playing choices do not replace the final checks. The decisive factors are whether Lacra or Crake has been prepared, which ending quest you start and whether you accept Brencis's last bargain.
| Target ending | Commitment | Best reload point |
|---|---|---|
| The Turncoat | Ask for the family back, then confirm the deal; allied routes also offer a last betrayal choice | Before the parley or ally confrontation |
| The Folk Hero | Choose the immediate attack and enter without an ally route | Before A Deal with the Devil |
| The Patricide | Complete Lacra's chain and start her final route | After Lacra preparation, before final commitment |
| The Knyazmaker | Complete Crake's chain and start the Manumit final route | After Crake preparation, before final commitment |
Two early endings
A Hero They Deserve uses the western escape route after the prologue. Attempt it at night, when Coen's vampire movement can reach the exit, and reload Save A afterward.
Together Forever occurs inside Home Sweet Home at Silts Tower. Continue the family loop through four completed cycles instead of following the well escape. Keep Save E because escaping the sequence leads to a separate reward and lets the campaign continue.
Secret prologue Brencis ending
A separate, exceptionally difficult credits route exists at the end of the prologue. Defeat Brencis in the first encounter, then defeat Brencis, Grotesque Ascendant. The result has a short epilogue because the wider Vale Sangora campaign never begins.
This is the route behind the seven-versus-eight disagreement. PowerPyx treats early access to the later solo castle route as an alternate Folk Hero method, while PC Gamer separately records the actual prologue two-stage victory. Preserve Save 0 before attempting it; a late-game branch save cannot return to this fight.
Time Runs Out and post-deadline play
Passing 30 in-game days triggers the family-sacrifice outcome instead of a conventional hard game over. Published launch testing says free exploration and other final routes remain available afterward, but the clean timed-rescue path is lost on that timeline.
Test this outcome only on a duplicate manual save. Shrines can advance time quickly, but ordinary exploration does not consume quest time unless an activity displays and spends time segments.
Can you keep playing after an ending?
No completed ending currently opens a conventional postgame or returns Coen to unrestricted free roam. After the credits, use Load Game and return to the permanent manual save you created before A Deal with the Devil, an ally finale or an early-ending trigger.
Do not confuse this with the Time Runs Out outcome. Crossing the 30-day deadline leaves the world playable, but actually completing one of the final or early endings closes that branch. PowerPyx's one-playthrough route likewise depends on reloading the pre-finale save after each ending, and fresh player reports confirm that choosing a different finale does not unlock a continue-after-credits mode.
| What just happened | Can you free-roam? | Best next step |
|---|---|---|
| You completed a Brencis ending | Not from the finished branch | Load the manual save before the final quest |
| You triggered A Hero They Deserve or Together Forever | Not from the completed ending | Load the backup before the early-ending choice |
| The 30-day deadline expired | Yes, but the timed family rescue is lost | Continue exploring or load a pre-deadline save |
| You want another ending or unfinished side content | Yes, from an earlier save | Use the permanent final-branch save rather than an autosave |
Final checklist before the branch
Use this list before committing to Brencis. If one item is missing, return to the matching permanent save rather than hoping the next autosave keeps every route open.
- Esme survived the prologue
- Ambrus, Bakir and Xanthe are defeated
- Lacra and Crake preparations are complete
- A permanent save exists before A Deal with the Devil
- A second backup exists before day 30
- Home Sweet Home has its own pre-loop save
- The next route is clearly labeled solo, Lacra, Crake, bargain or early exit
Frequently asked questions
How many endings does The Blood of Dawnwalker have?
Count eight distinct route or failure states if the two-stage prologue Brencis victory is separate. Some trophy guides say seven because they count four main finales, two early endings and Time Runs Out while omitting or folding in the prologue win.
Can you get every Dawnwalker ending in one playthrough?
You can preserve branches within one campaign, but you need a manual save before the prologue Brencis fight as well as later saves before Home Sweet Home, day 30 and the final alliance choices.
Do you need to replay the entire game for every ending?
No. Preserve manual saves before the final quest, before the day-30 deadline and before committing to the early-ending choices.
Can you continue playing after a Dawnwalker ending?
Not from the completed ending. Load the manual save made before the final commitment to continue side content or choose another ending. The separate 30-day timeout outcome still permits free exploration.
Does time running out end the game?
No. It changes the family's outcome and blocks the timed rescue, but published evidence says the world remains playable.
